What Do You See When There is No Power?

What a winter and what a God! A few weeks ago I wrote about the quietness of the outside world with the snow falling. Today (Saturday) I write about the “almost” quietness of the outside and inside world with the ice storm which came on Friday night. I say "almost" because we have the generator running to keep the fridge and freezer operating as well as a light and our device charging station. We are so fortunate to have gas logs and a gas stove.

But this quiet has been different. With no power, there is no internet; no WiFi; no lights; no online puzzles to keep my brain functioning. Lord, what do you want me to do?? And the scripture that came to my spirit was:

John 1:3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. (NKJV)

I felt such overwhelming gratefulness and thankfulness for what God has provided for us. He wanted me to notice, pay attention to, realize, comprehend, appreciate all which was before me. My heart began to explode with praise for Him because it ALL COMES FROM HIM. How often have I not acknowledged that. Forgive me, Lord.

While sitting in silence in front of the gas logs, I looked around at every little thing in our family room; then every little thing outside the windows, and even things through the use of my senses - touch, see, hear, taste, smell. There is nothing that He did not make! God created every living thing/creature on this earth as well as the entire universe. He created people, like you and me, with skills needed to help mankind grow through the years and decades and centuries.

Just look at the modern conveniences we have today, but they didn’t just appear when God created man, male and female. He advanced His people over these generations with innumerable skills and knowledge as well as the wisdom to know how to use them. You may say that God didn't create the web or drive-alone cars or Zoom services, but I believe He did! He has not only given people various trades/skills and knowledge and wisdom, but He has given them traits of curiosity, adventure, and achievement to take us where we have not been before. It makes you wonder what is yet to come!

Then there are those who have gifts from God but either choose not to use them or to use them in sinful ways. I believe that God has plans for us before we are even conceived, but it is up to us to choose either His plan or our own.

Again He has given me more time to stand still and experience Him.

I know without a doubt that I take these modern conveniences for granted. If I didn’t know before, I do know now that I would never have made it as a pioneer woman!!

It is during times like these when some/all of these conveniences are halted for a while that I realize what God pointed out to me. We would have nothing; we would be nothing; we would achieve nothing of worth if we did not rely on, trust, worship, and give all of the praise and thanks to our Lord!! What a mighty God we serve!! What an awesome God to bring me/us back to reality at times and to help us refocus on Him and His benefits!

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Always be joyful.17 Never stop praying.18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

Thank you, Father! Amen!!
