The Roar of Spittin' Rain

Writer: Rachel WestRachel West

I had just arrived home from exercising at the YMCA. I knew we were supposed to get a brief shower of rain around 3:00pm. When I left the car, I felt a “spittin’ rain” falling, but as I walked past the black plastic covering the ground next to the driveway, I could hear the rain falling as if it were raining harder. Five minutes later as I was typing this message, the bottom dropped out, and the rain poured for several minutes. Good timing in getting home before I got drenched!

But I was amazed at how loud the “spittin’ rain” was on that plastic. Do you know what I’m talking about? Something that I would never have given another thought about suddenly became loud to my senses, and you know what that means! That means God has a message!

What came into my spirit was the volume of sound which can come from the combination of many small, soft voices! As we pray to God, dance for God, sing for God, raise our hands to God, let’s do it with many people who love God!! And as we do, we know that the volume will reach the heavens, and our praises will be pleasing to the God who loves us and cares so much for us!!

This doesn’t mean that our individual sharing times with God are not pleasing to Him or are not heard. He adores every word you utter to Him; every minute you spend with Him; and every burden you share with Him. These personal times are the ones which develop our own unique relationship with God.

But consider the effects of the combination of voices in various arenas in life. Just think about the volume of voices at March Madness basketball games! How often we yell in excitement or frustration during the game! It is one thing to hear this in one’s own home, but it is entirely another to hear it in a 20,000 seat arena! A resounding roar!

Can you imagine praising God in this way? Our youth went to WinterJam in Raleigh, NC last weekend. This is Christian music’s biggest multi-artist tour and was held at PNC Arena, which has a capacity of 19,722. What a way to praise God by joining others singing and yelling and using their individual voices. What a roar of voices??? That’s what I call lifting a praise for God!!

Think on these scriptures which encourage us, even instruct us, to praise God together. Our individual, small voices combined in song and prayer will no doubt reach God with a loud roar – a very pleasing roar!!

All the earth worships you and sings praises to you; they sing praises to your name.”

Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.

Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!

I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving.

Keep roaring to God!

Thanks for stopping by,

Rachel
