Psalm 91:1, 4 He that dwells in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
He shall cover you with his feathers, and under his wings shall you trust (AKJV)
I love this time of year when the silver maple tree is changing by the day. The buds (mentioned in a previous message) have expanded into pretty little leaves which are growing larger each day. Creation is unfolding before my eyes!
When I was on the elliptical this morning, God brought my attention to these newly expanding leaves - from bud to a minuscule unfolding of each leaf to a small but recognizable green maple leaf. And not just this but how the leaves at the end of each branch were larger than those under them. They were at different stages of growth, but the ones at the branches’ ends were the largest. They actually provide a covering, like feathers or wings, for the smaller ones underneath.
You all know by now that I am a very visual person. When God placed this message in my spirit, I knew that the larger leaves reminded me of Psalm 91, with the “feathers” or “wings” protecting those underneath. The smaller buds/leaves are like us when we are feeling fearful, uncertain, doubtful of all that is happening around us - think Coronavirus. Sometimes we have misplaced our strong faith with our not-as-strong faith and have taken our eyes off of Jesus. “Not-as-strong” faith can only take us but so far in life. The more of life we experience, the stronger our faith is required to become. If not, we just won’t survive very well.
We must stay under the shadow of the Almighty, just like the smaller; not as strong; and easily swayed leaves. But our faith must become stronger as we grow; experience life; pray; and read God's Word. These smaller leaves are thriving and growing under the shadow of the larger ones. The larger leaves are like those who have lived and gone before us. They protected us; taught us; loved us; and showed us the way to God. Now it is our turn, as the larger leaves, to protect, teach, love, and show others the way to God.
May we strengthen our faith and trust in God throughout these current unprecedented times, and keep our eyes upon Jesus! May God bless each of you immeasurably as we move forward each day in the shadow of the Almighty!
Thanks for stopping by!
Rachel
