From the Other Side of the Lamp

Writer: Rachel WestRachel West

She sat quietly in the waiting room, alone but not alone. She was praying to the God who hears all of our prayers. She was praying for her relative who was about to receive that difficult news from her test results. Oh, how she was praying within herself, with her love flowing from her heart to the God who knows her heart inside and out. She was praying.

There was a table and lamp next to her. Others were sitting on the other side of this table and lamp. Their conversation penetrated her praying as she heard them reference “Clarksville”. She was not going to “eavesdrop” or interrupt, but what did she do? She began praying for those individuals; the ones on the other side of the lamp.

We don’t know what is happening in the lives of those around us; we don’t know if they are suffering or rejoicing inside; we don’t know what they are facing when they enter those doors where the answers are. But God knows! This is why we pray. Yes, we need to pray even for those we may not know.

Scripture tells us:

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.

Psalm 119:105 (NLT)

A lamp on a table gives off light which shines away from the lamp in the direction dictated by the shape of the lamp shade. Since we have God’s Word in us, we also share His light through our prayers as dictated and directed by those He has placed around us. Even as we pray silently, those prayers are on a trajectory straight to God.

Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.

John 8:12 (NLT)

God’s Word is that light which can brighten and illuminate our daily walk and travels. We must listen, and we must pray for others we meet along our path, on the other side of the lamp.

Thanks for stopping by,

Rachel
