Happy Mother’s Day to ALL women! Yes, you read correctly - ALL women!! In my reflections today, I realized that I have had several “mothers” over the years in addition to my birth mother, and what an impact they have made on my life. These other “mothers” are those who have nurtured, listened, urged, pressed, comforted, loved, held me accountable, and said “I love you” just as Mildred Jolly did. And I celebrate them this Sunday as well as my birth mother.
I think about the marketing which takes place annually for celebrating Mothers Day and the cute craft ideas for the younger kids to bring home. There are pictures of jewelry to purchase for the best Mom ever; flowers to offer God’s beauty to her; a beautiful home showing Mom relaxing while the family pampers her. These Mothers are the birth mothers for those children.
But I also think about those other women who are not my birth mother but who have (and still do) impacted me in life-changing ways at various times of my life. Some of those ways have been very small but subtle. Some of those ways have been through large events. Some of these women have not given birth to a child and some have, but regardless, they have shown the love of a mother to me.
You know who I’m talking about - the young neighbor who could talk with me when I was a teenager and didn’t want to listen to Mom or Dad; the woman who could hear my heart and gently press me in the right direction; the woman who opened her home to me and helped to guide my steps when I had questions; the group of women who surrounded me after Mom’s death and comforted me in ways I was not cognizant of.
We all influence the lives of others we come into contact with. Recently, a friend told me something I did for her when we were in high school, and I had no recollection of it, but she did. I’m sure there are remembrances I have of others which they do not remember. Our actions really do speak loudly, and our interactions with others can be memorable.
So I say “Happy Mother’s Day” to ALL women because ALL women have influence on others which helps to transform and shape their lives. I thank God for His vision of mothers and how important they would be to the world. Every person on earth has a mother, and we are blessed by her presence, words and love. It doesn’t matter whether or not they gave birth to us - each is a mother to ALL!
Happy Mother’s Day to all of you Precious Women! I love you!
Thanks for stopping by
